In order to go up to the observation deck, you must first buy a ticket at the ticket sales counter on the 1st floor, and then go up to the 11th floor. There you change elevators for the 4th or 5th floor of the observation deck, where you have a 360 degree view of the city.
Located 100 meters above ground, the observation deck provides a spectacular view of nearby Kyoto Station and the five-storied pagoda at Toji Temple, and on a clear day with good weather, you can see all the way to Osaka. There are telescopes, free of charge, on the observation deck, so you can take your time and look at each spot in detail. At night the lighting of the observation deck is turned down, and you feel as if you are adrift on a sea of neon lights.
On the 3rd floor of the observation deck there is the Sky Lounge "KUU" built in 2007, and just as on the regular observation deck, there is a glass window through which you can see the whole of the city spread out below you as you enjoy a meal or take a coffee or tea break.
The lounge can be used for lunch or coffee, and there are meals available, like curry rice or pasta, and cake sets, starting at 1,000 yen. The menu at night has a full course of dinners starting at 2,000 yen and a full menu of cocktails, starting at 900 yen, so it is very popular as a special place to spend the evening. |
