the "Eikando Temple Light Up" |
 |
|
With the Higashiyama mountains in the background, the old buildings at Eikando Temple are in perfect harmony with the greenery and water in the garden. Officially known as Nishiyama Zenrin-ji Temple, this is the main temple of the Jodoshu sect of Zen Buddhism. Since the Heian Period, the temple has been known as a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves and it has been called the "Eikando, the temple of maple leaves." There are about 3,000 colorful Iwagaki maple trees on the grounds around the Amida-do Pagoda, combining to make a unique sight. During this season, you can also enjoy the beauty of the scenery at night when the grounds are illuminated during the Eikando Temple Light Up event. |
