Here at one of the oldest shrines in Japan, you will find the latest technology as charging facilities for electric vehicles
  While Kamigamo Shrine has long been known for being dedicated to the guardian deity of the electricity industry, the shrine now a charging station for electric vehicles. The facility features a 200V plug, and it was constructed at the shrine parking lot in October of 2009. The facility provides a charge large enough vehicles at the present state of technology to run for a distance of about twenty kilometers when charged for one hour, and the service is free of charge. This charging facility was developed through the cooperation of the shrine and the government of Kyoto Prefecture in order to promote the spread of electric vehicles and environment conservation. As it is expected that in the near future more people will be visiting Kyoto using electric vehicles or eco-automobiles, the facility was constructed to take the initiative, leading other shrines and temples in the effort to provide environment friendly facilities. The official stance of the shrine is "Our shrine is separated a little from the center of the city. Accordingly, many visitors to the shrine come by car, but if you do use a car, please use an electric vehicle." Here at Kamigamo Shrine you can see the ancient capitol of Japan engaged in maintaining the old traditions while employing state-of-the-art technology in consideration for the global environment.
